Sage Monteith

Guest Trainer: Asana Foundations, MyoFascial Release

RYT 200hr, MFR 25hr, MFR/Anatomy Trains 50hr, AIReal Yoga Certified

TEACHING BACKGROUND:
I have been teaching yoga for 5 years.

I teach Hatha/Vinyasa, Myofascial Release, Deep/Power/Gentle/Yin.

My notable certifications and specialized trainings include specialized training in anatomy/myofascial release/anatomy trains (75 hours with April Geary) and AIReal Yoga certification.

My relevant professional background outside of yoga includes a BA in Social Work and Sociology. I have worked with families in crisis and have extensive experience with trauma-informed care and mindfulness. I also taught yoga in rehabilitation centers for 3 years.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TRAINEES GAIN FROM YOUR PORTION OF THE TRAINING?
I hope trainees gain an understanding of basic anatomy as it relates to asana, and what fascia is and how it works. I will be working with Bryan to see his anatomy curriculum so I can build off/reference that, and I will also provide visual materials for them to take notes on and help them see it better. Trainees will learn fascia release techniques and how they can incorporate them into their classes and sequence around them.

DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE:
I try to bring a balance of freedom, clarity, levity, compassion, and space to gain a deeper understanding of the physical body and anatomy in my classes. I like to get creative with movement patterns while using repetition and themes to help students connect deeper with their breath and body. I try to create a safe space for exploration and allow class to be a soft place for students to land.

WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE GRASSROOTS YOGA COMMUNITY?
I think I bring goofiness and comfort to the GY community!

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT YOU:
I’m really obsessed with my dogs. The happiest I ever am is when we are all swimming in the ocean or a creek! I love the water, no matter how cold it is, I am going in. I am sometimes an artist and love to create in all different ways and forms.
