Pixie Stephensen

Guest Trainer: Yoga History & Philosophy

RYT 500, Yoga Therapy Certified

TEACHING BACKGROUND:
I have been teaching yoga for 24 years.

I teach Vintage Vinyasa.

My notable certifications and specialized trainings include 1000+ hours of study, including 7+ years with Shiva Rea, Mark Whitwell, Yoga Therapy Certification in India (2005), a B.S. Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Health & Wellness/Exercise Science (I received my first 200 hr YTT while in college), and Health Coach Certification (2024).

My relevant professional background outside of yoga includes living, studying, and working in India within the Health & Wellness field. I have taught yoga and led retreats around the world. I also helped build and develop a high-end Health & Wellness retreat center in Los Angeles that caters to wealthy seekers of health.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TRAINEES GAIN FROM YOUR PORTION OF THE TRAINING?
I hope trainees will gain an understanding, honoring, and love of what yoga truly is, and learn how to embrace the philosophy of this ancient practice/lifestyle on and off the mat. I want them to be able to grasp the concepts of the history of yoga and the sutras.

DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE:
I have a deep understanding of the lineage of the Vinyasa practice. I have spent my entire life learning and embodying the teachings of yoga. My education in the physical movement of the body has gifted me a unique understanding of integrating yoga philosophy into a public yoga class with asana. I teach traditional, or “Vintage Vinyasa,” where holding and breathing into the poses is part of the experience.

My offerings are guided by the Ayurvedic principles of seasonal living within the doshas. I build my sequences within a three-month plan, aligning with the moon cycles of each season according to the peak pose of that season. I weave in motivational speaking and empowerment messages relevant to the season and the collective space.

WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE GRASSROOTS YOGA COMMUNITY?
I contribute mentorship, expertise, and a deep passion to share the “ah-ha” moments of yoga living with all yogis.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT YOU:
I enjoy gardening, hiking, and learning to live off the land. I love camping with a splash of bougie moments mixed in, and I also love a fabulous pair of sunnies.
