WHERE WERE YOU BORN/RAISED?
Ventura, California

TELL A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR PERSONAL PRACTICE
I’ve been practicing yoga since 2015 when my older sister, Sarah, first founded Grassroots. I honestly just started to support her and hopefully get a workout in here and there. I didn’t even really like yoga before that! I thought I was really “bad at it” and even got bored in non-power type classes. Then one day I finally learned what it meant to square my hips and the poses suddenly felt so much sweeter. Since then it’s become a tool to practice patience, alleviate anxiety and learn to love and accept both the power and limitations of my own body. I’ve learned to relish gentle and yin style classes, but still love to get sweaty.

TELL A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I finished a hybrid hatha and aerial yoga teacher training in 2019 and have been teaching community classes since! I plan to dive a lot deeper. *RYT200

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE AND WHY?
Warrior III – it is so strong and empowering and is one of the few poses that really requires most major muscle groups to work in unison to create balance and stability.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA/SELF HELP/SPIRITUALITY BOOK AND WHY?
To Love and Let Go by Rachel Brathen – she talks about really complicated emotions so eloquently and vulnerably. This book gave me all the feels.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS?
Be kind to yourself! I promise no one is looking at you if you fall out of Tree Pose or skip your Chaturangas. Listen to your body and be proud for just showing up.

WHAT DOES COMMUNITY MEAN TO YOU?
Everything.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT VENTURA?
I grew up here and even tried to leave for a while, but my heart is here. My community is here. There’s a little something for everyone.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?
Ventura County Community Development Corporation (VCCDC) – they help Ventura County residents gain entryway into homeownership which in turn helps the local economy and keeps the community thriving. I have been working with them to learn about the home buying process and they have even helped me come up with a budget and savings plan to eventually afford a down payment – something I NEVER thought I would do! What an amazing service to the county!
