WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED?
Ventura California.
TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR PERSONAL PRACTICE
I dibble dabbled with yoga for decades, but it was Grassroots Yoga that really encouraged and inspired me to have a regular daily practice. I started practicing at the park with Grassroots Yoga before the studio was opened, and once the studio opened in 2018 I jumped at the opportunity to become a member and have been practicing here most days ever since.
TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I love to teach grounding classes while sneaking in a little fire! I focus on opening the heart space, and find ways to weave in balance, strength and flexibility.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE?
Utthita Trikonasana/Triangle- Like most yoga poses, they are forever evolving and changing in our bodies & Trikonasana is no different. Trikonasana is dynamic! When I am in this pose, it snaps me into the present moment. Trikonasana teaches patience & confidence, and if you rush the process you might miss out! Just one minute adjustment can give you an "ah ha" moment. After many years, I feel like I can still practice Trikonasana with a beginners mind with so much awareness and room to learn.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA/SPIRITUALITY/SELF HELP BOOK?
Yoga of the Subtle Body by Tias Little.
ANY ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS?
Consistency is key! Not every practice has to be 100% pedal to the metal. Find the balance of effort and ease. Lean into the challenge & breathe, but back off before too much stress is created in the body.
WHAT DOES “COMMUNITY” MEAN TO YOU?
Being present & showing up even when it's hard.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT VENTURA?
Foggy mornings walks followed by coffee!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION? (preferably something local)
Ventura Land Trust- Thank you for preserving space for us to enjoy!
