WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED?
I was born and raised in the small village of Cameron, 2.5 hours northeast of Toronto, Ontario Canada.

TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR PERSONAL PRACTICE

I found yoga in 2006 by happenstance at Equinox in Santa Monica. In 2010 when a back injury had me reevaluate my life, activities, workouts, relationships and it was through my healing journey that I found myself, exploring different styles of yoga, like restorative, iyengar and yin, the slow more therapeutic really get into your body and feel into each posture and shape yoga. I was hooked and as I healed my own body without the surgery and medications that “were my only options” I knew I wanted to share this therapeutic side of yoga with others.

TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I began teaching others in 2015, received my 200hr certification in June of 2017 and my Prenatal certification in October of 2017. In 2019 I found The Soul of Yoga and the Yoga Therapy Program and knew that was the next integral part of my journey. All that I have gained through this deep dive into yoga as therapy along with my private practice of Somatic Quantum Healing has shaped my style of teaching healing yoga.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE?
My favorite asana is Savasana.
It’s called corpse pose because it asks you to surrender completely. Letting go, into a full bodies (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) experience bathing in the efforts of your practice, connecting with your essence, chi, life force, source energy. Offering us a beautiful contrast of effort and ease or in Sanskrit the practice of Sthira (steadiness, courage or strength) and Sukha (openness, comfort, good space). A practice that cultivates spaciousness, resilience, embodied connection in BEING, while navigating everyday life.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA/SPIRITUALITY/SELF HELP BOOK?
Gosh there are so many; I feel this list is ever changing, but perhaps some unexpected sources would be Breath by James Nestor, Think like a Monk by Jay Shetty, any of the Dolores Cannon Book for a mind walk, Becoming SuperNatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza, How To Do The Work by Dr. Nicole Lepera and The Myth of Normal by Gabor Maté, MD.

ANY ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS?
Just Listen. Listen to your body, listen to your breath, listen to your heart beating. Go deep within and just listen. Yoga as a practice offers us an opportunity to relate to our bodies in a new and different way. Yoga empowers us to go within for the answers, encourages an innate sense of trust within self and it’s safe to listen deeply. It’s safe to be in my body, it’s safe to be ME, just as I am.

WHAT DOES “COMMUNITY” MEAN TO YOU?
To me Community as a felt sense deep within feels familiar, warm, comfortable, loving, welcoming, inviting, embracing and empowering. Grateful to have found that felt sense mirrored here at Grassroots Yoga.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT VENTURA?

As a transplant I have felt embraced by the community here, for that I am grateful.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?
RAK Life, and Iverson Foundation for Active Awareness.
