I'm not flexible, can I still do yoga?

A standard misconception about yoga is that it is only for flexible bodies. This is not true! At Grassroots Yoga, we appreciate every body and every shape. We believe that yoga is meant for everyone therefor we offer a range of classes to fit your needs and modifications for each pose. Although, increased flexibility is a benefit of practicing yoga on a regular basis!

Why heated yoga?

We believe that practicing yoga in a comfortable environment amplifies the benefits of your practice by increasing your heart rate and metabolism, which in turn helps circulation and blood flow to the limbs and flushes out toxins stored in our tissue and lymphatic system. The heat also keeps your muscles warm and pliable, and encourages a juicy, sweaty, detoxifying yoga session for your mind, body and soul! Most of our classes are heated to 90 degrees with up to 95% humidity, with the exception of Gentle Flow, Yinfusion, Float, Soul Symphony, and most of our workshops. Our “non-heated” classes tend to be between 80-85 degrees with a 30% or lower humidity point.

How is the room heated?

Our practice space is heated through a radiant heated floor system. A heated floor system is more energy efficient than forced air heating. It also keeps the room at a natural humidity level while forced-air needs to be supplemented with forced humidity. Our classes are kept between 85-95 degrees, depending on the class.

Where do I park?

You may park in any spots in our parking lot on the corner of E. Main St and Jordan Ave that have a Grassroots Yoga sign, spots marked “yoga”, or street parking. Please do not park in Mission Animal Hospital’s spots, Taco Bell’s parking lot, the alley or in Seaward Plaza, as towing enforcement is in place. In an effort to be respectful of our neighbors, we only advise parking in the residential area as a last resort, being mindful not to block their driveways. There is plenty of parking on Main St. just a block or two east of the studio, or the first block of Coronado St. at Main St. Consider walking or biking to class instead of drive and we’ll lend you a mat for free! There is a bike rack right outside our front door. We recommend using a “U-lock” bike lock.

What should I bring?

The two most important things to bring to any yoga class is an open mind and compassion for yourself! However, since you’ll likely be sweating, it’s advised to wear breathable exercise clothing and to bring  a hand towel. Some students also like to bring a larger towel to put down over their yoga mat in case it get’s slippery. Yoga mats, hand towels, mat towels, and shower towels are all available to rent at the front desk. Feel free to bring your own water and refill at our filtered water station, or purchase a bottle of water from us.

What should I expect?

Expect to move, breathe, sweat, and to be challenged! Expect to run into poses that you can not do. If you are trying yoga for the first time, expect that the first few classes might feel confusing or even overwhelming. Typically, the learning curve for yoga is very steep. But as you stick with it, the poses become more familiar and you learn to work with your own body and eventually class feels more natural. Most of all, expect to have fun!

Should I pre-register?

Although not required, it is highly recommended. Pre-registering ensures your spot in class up to 5 minutes before class begins. It is encouraged to pre-register so we can contact you directly with any unforeseen class changes or cancellations, and it also makes checking in through our self check-in system easier and faster! Please de-register yourself from class to avoid a no show fee, and to make room for someone on the waitlist.

How do I pre-register?

If you already have a MINDBODY online account with Grassroots Yoga, you can register for class here by logging in with your account information.

If you have been to our studio, but have never logged into your account online:

  • Go to our online class schedule
  • Click on the “My Account” link near the top of the page
  • Enter your email address that you used when you came to class at the studio and click “Need a new password”. Instructions on creating your password and logging in will be emailed to you within a few minutes.
  • You can now register for classes by clicking “Sign Up” next to the class you plan on attending

If you have never taken a class at Grassroots Yoga:

  • Go to our online class schedule
  • Click on the “My Account” link near the top of the page
  • Click on “Create an Account”
  • Enter your information and click “register”
  • You can now register for classes by clicking “Sign Up” next to the class you plan on attending
How do I log in with the Grassroots Yoga mobile app?

To manage your account and register for classes through our mobile app {link to mobile app page}, download the app to your phone and sign in using the same MINDBODY log in info you use to manage your account online. You can also create your MINDBODY account in the app.

Do you have locker rooms & showers?

Yes, we do! Feel free to bring your shower gear and a change of clothes, bath towels are available to rent at the front desk. Please review Locker Room Etiquette in our Policies & Etiquette page.

Do you offer discounts?

We do! We love discounts! We offer discounts for students, faculty, military, veterans, seniors and juniors. To see if you qualify for a discount head to our Plans & Pricing. All discounted passes must be purchased at the front desk with valid identification. Our priority at Grassroots Yoga is to make sure that yoga is accessible for everyone, therefor we are always open to working one on one with you if you feel your financial situation warrants a discount. These conversations must be made in person or by email with Sarah at sarah@grassrootsyogaventura.com. Although we can’t always grant a discount, we are always open to exploring ways to keep you on your mat and a part of the #grassrootsyogafam!

I don’t like to be touched…

That’s ok! We have special cards at the entrance to the practice space that go at the top of your mat to alert the instructor that you do not want any hands on assisting or adjusting. If you aren’t sure where they are, just ask the front desk and we’ll happily help you out.
