TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR PERSONAL PRACTICE
I was an office worker with back problems. A friend of mine introduced me to yoga and I noticed my back felt better and I had increased flexibility. I began to attend more yoga classes and realized I wanted to teach yoga. At YogaWorks, I signed up and completed my 200-hour and later 500-hour professional teacher training programs. Recently I took and passed the tests to become a certified YogaWorks style teacher.
TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I’ve been teaching Hatha and YogaWorks style yoga at various yoga studios and fitness gyms in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Westlake Village, and Thousand Oaks. I also taught yoga to the Catholic Priests at St. John Seminary in Camarillo. E- R.Y.T 500
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE?
Savasana (Corpse Pose) is my favorite yoga pose because it allows me to really relax, knowing that my work is done. I have nowhere to go, nothing to strive for, and nothing to worry about. I just let go.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA/SPIRITUALITY/SELF HELP BOOK?
My favorite yoga spirituality book is “The Secret of the Yoga Sutra” by Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, PhD. The yoga sutra is the living source of yoga traditions. Using it as a guide, we can unlock the hidden power of yoga and experience the promise of yoga in our lives. By applying its living wisdom in our practice, we can achieve the purpose of life—lasting fulfillment and ultimate freedom.
ANY ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS?
Wherever you decide to practice yoga, in a gym or in a yoga studio, you should start with an entry level class. When it comes to yoga, form and alignment is everything. It is important to learn the correct posture for each pose.
WHAT DOES “COMMUNITY” MEAN TO YOU?
Community is a group of people we lean on when times are tough–our friends, family, and neighbors who are there for us when we need support and encouragement.
