WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED?
Born in Southern California but raised half in Sunbury, Columbus Ohio

TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I waited three years after my certificate to teach, wanting to expand my knowledge more so I could truly offer something authentic as well as alignment based. Starting this year, teaching has grown me in miraculous ways and consistently is. Being able to connect with people and watch them grow as they grow me is such a gift. Teaching has shown me how to truly be vulnerable and to get the idea of perfection out of the door and to truly come back to my own true authentic self. Being able to teach is one of this worlds miracle in my life.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE?
Skandasana- side lunge is one of my absolute favorite poses in yoga. Transitioning so low to the ground puts me back into my primal nature making my spine, hips, pelvic floor, and hamstrings extremely happy

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA/SPIRITUALITY/SELF HELP BOOK?
Hands down “The Universe has your Back” and “Awakening Shakti.” (had to pick two!) The first book reminds me of faith and my own inner strength, also showing me and reminding me of my shadow side and how I can better myself as a whole. Awakening Shakti is just pure power and it helps me really connect to different pieces of myself through my meditation and home practice.

ANY ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS?
First, don’t compare to anyone else not even yourself from the day before. Yoga is a journey of thyself more than an exercise. Patience and expectance for anything and everything. Starting yoga is a way to truly learn how we react to things in this life and also how to heal the body from the inside out, watching yourself grow just like plants. It’s a beautiful thing. So be patient, breath, talk it out to teachers or friends with struggles, and know you are supported!

WHAT DOES “COMMUNITY” MEAN TO YOU?
Community to me is a place where I feel supported. It’s a place for people to help one another out without judgment, without expectations or comparison. Community is everything to me and is a growing experience all in itself. It allows us to be vulnerable with one another and have that helping hand when we are in need, as well as give back.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT VENTURA?
There are plenty of reasons to love this town, my top reasons are: the ocean, climate, mountains, and the variety of people

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?
That’s a hard one! I’m going to have to go with the Surfrider foundation. One of the most important things to me is our land and sea. The way that we treat it has a tremendous effect on its climate and our own wellbeing’s. Surfrider helps with beach access, costal preservations with money we can donate, ocean protection, clean water, and plastic pollution. We will always start and end with nature. To support such an amazing cause is irreplaceable. We are losing our coral reefs due to climate change, if you want to watch a short documentary film about it look up “Chasing Coral.” Every inch of awareness counts.
